A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to join the Seacoast Camera Club for a workshop with Carl Austin Hyatt. Carl is a large format photographer locally known for his extensive work at the Portsmouth salt piles. Hearing him talk about his approach to photography using 8x10 cameras was a massive inspiration, and we all took a trip to the Rye seacoast to put some of his teachings into practice. Here are some Mamiya RZ67 shots from that trip. My favorite might actually be the accidental double-exposure:
Aside from the Great Outdoors, I have spent quite a bit of time at one of the greatest Indoors I have ever seen: Palm Press in Medford, MA! This print shop is run by Gus Kayafas and Ross Kiah, a fellow photographer I happened to meet through music. Ross and Gus made some incredible darkroom prints of two of my images. It had been almost 20 years since I made darkroom prints of my own, so watching the pros do it was a true privilege. We made a limited edition run of 3 for each image, available now at RedDot Culture (You can click on each of the images below to check them out.)
